Game of Thrones: Catan Guest Review - The Night's Watch Will Stand!

So I wasn’t jumping for joy over a Catan take on the intellectual property, but it certainly looked the part and I am a fan of the Catan series of games, so that was enough to peak my interest and look further. But I get wary these days of publishers pasting IP’s onto everything when they hold the sole license. As Tyrion said: “it’s hard to put a leash on a dog once you’ve put a crown on its head”.

Season 2 Episode 23 - HANDYCON

After a brief hiatus, it's time to get back into podcasting! In this one hour episode I run through my experiences at Handycon  - the new convention in the UK that's building up every year. Allow me to talk to you about some specific games I played such as Welcome to Centerville, CO2 and Nemesis.

After that I continue the Broken Memories segment with a talk about one of my first ever purchases, Citadels and then I have a lot to talk about regarding the future ideas I have for reviews, podcasting and new potential ventures, but I need your feedback and thoughts to assist.

Broken Meeple Videos - Kingsburg: 2nd Edition Review

The realm of Kingsburg is under attack! Monstrous invaders are gathering at the borders, aiming to invade and plunder the realm! Your king has chosen you to take charge of a province on the border; you will manage your province and help defend the realm. To accomplish this, you must influence the King's advisors and the Royal Family to obtain gold, wood, stones, and soldiers to expand and defend your lands. But you are not the only governor seeking the aid of the advisers! The other players also seek to collect the best resources for their own territories.

How does the second edition compare to the one before? Would you be wise to dispose of the original and obtain this one, or should you think a bit more carefully about it?

Glass Road Guest Review - From Great To Hate In 2 Players

This isn’t the first time I’ve got to play Glass Road. It came out a while ago and I wasn’t bowled over by it then despite the praise it got. However, on those occasions I was restricted to 4 player games as at a game group it’s easy to max out player counts. But it wasn’t that I disliked the game as a whole, it was actually one aspect alone that killed it and it’s actually one that most players love about Glass Road. When I thought about it more, I realised that this might have simply being a player count issue and so I needed to see if at lower player counts it would suit me better.

Broken Meeple Videos - Pandemic Legacy Season 2 (Half Way Review)

Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 is an epic cooperative game for 2 to 4 players. Unlike most other games, this one is working against you. What's more, some of the actions you take in Pandemic Legacy will carry over to future games. No two worlds will ever be alike! Pandemic Legacy Season 1 was a fun game even if I'm not the biggest Pandemic fan! Can Season 2 so far continue the same fun? I'm only half way through due to a infrequent group, but that's plenty enough to give my thoughts.

Broken Meeple Videos - Pandemic: Rising Tide

In Pandemic: Rising Tide, it is your goal to avert tragedy by constructing four modern hydraulic structures in strategic locations that will help you defend the country from being reclaimed by the ocean. Storms are brewing and the seas are restless. It will take all your guile to control the flow of water long enough to usher in the future of the Netherlands. It's time to get to work. Co-designed by what might as well be my arch nemesis, how do I take to the latest offering in the Pandemic franchise that will never die?

Broken Meeple Videos - First Martians Review

NOTE - I'm aware that I missed a cut at 9:15 - apologies!! That's a first and I will hope, a last blunder!!! Maybe it was Martian Sickness getting to me!!

Built on the core of the award-winning Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island, First Martians: Adventures on the Red Planet pits players against the hostile Martian environment and a whole host of new adventures and challenges. The immersion experience is further enhanced with an integrated app that maintains the balance and challenge throughout. Players have the option of taking on the design as a series of separate games, in a custom campaign mode in which each successive game builds on the last. It had a messy upbringing and doesn't seem to be getting as much buzz as expected. Why is that? Are people being too harsh or are there some important points to be aware of?

Broken Meeple Videos - Keyper Review

Keyper has similar traits to the earlier Key games: Game actions are positive and constructive, not destructive; player interaction is through the game mechanisms not direct, and like Keyflower, the previous game in the series, there is a lot of player interaction.

But there is one thing that infuriates me with this game.........

Broken Meeple Videos - Unlock: Mystery Adventures Review

Unlock! Mystery Adventures features three new "escape room" scenarios that you can play on your tabletop. Relax, this is Spoiler Free/Lite. I've started to get into Escape Rooms a lot more now, both in games and in real life. EXIT and Unlock are my favourites. The first Unlock series was a good package although it had issues with the final scenario. This version manages to have the best and the worst scenario to date. . . . which ones are which?

Broken Meeple Videos - Charterstone (Solo) Review

THIS REVIEW IS IN TWO SECTIONS. THE FIRST IS SPOILER FREE. I WILL GIVE PLENTY OF WARNING WHEN IT GETS TO SECTION 2 WHICH IS SPOILER RIDDEN. 20:28 - Spoiler Review Legacy seems to be the go-to phrase now to get your game hyped beyond belief. However I'm not fooled. Not every game that puts that word on their cover is a masterpiece just by default. Stonemaier Games has had a variable track record - I'm not the biggest fan of Euphoria or Between Two Cities, but Scythe and Viticulture are in my Top Ten of all time. So a "build it yourself" Euro that you play 12 games of and create your own unique board? Ok that sounds pretty good, but did it live up to the hype?

Broken Meeple Top Ten - Expansions of 2017

As a side arc to the Top Ten of 2017 I felt that some special mention needed to go out to the unsung heroes that are expansions. I always love a good expansion to a great game and here are 10 picks of those that I feel made significant differences to their respective games. If you don't want to hear the intro or honorable mentions then skip to 05:15.
